Modern Technology a Curse

No picture for today's "Oh my heck!" This time you'll have to use your imagination. Imagine a very rainy day when I got off work early. I thought I would have a small outing to the mall with my girls. Ali had to work at 5:00 at the mall anyway, and since her car accident we have been short a car, so that took care of her ride to work.

We shopped, got a Mrs. Field's cookie, bought a couple of fun things and Ali went to work. It was pouring down rain when we got in my van when I had a thought: If Jared picked us up after work, I could leave my van there at the mall and no one will have to go out again to pick Ali up at 10:00. Good plan. Jared agreed and I ran my keys back into the mall to Ali. Instead of dragging Mimi out in the rain again I had her wait in my van, but don't worry, I locked the doors while she played with her Littlest Pet Shop pets.

After giving my keys to Ali I ran to the van in the pelting rain and knocked on the window. Mimi came to the driver's side and pulled on the handle. "Unlock the door!" I yelled. She pushes on the window button. "NO! Unlock it! Push the button!" Meanwhile, the rain is POURING on me. She pulls on the handle again. Rain is soaking through two layers of fleece fabric in my hoodie. "Push the button! Right there - push it forward!"

"I don't know which button!" she's panicking, pulling on the handle again.

"OH MY HECK!" I'm freaking out because not only am I getting soaked, Mimi is locked in the car. It reminds me of the blonde who locked herself in the car and someone had to get a coat hanger to get her out. My daughter does not know how to unlock a car door without a remote control - nor can she roll down the windows without keys in the ignition. My husband pulls up and sees me standing outside of my car, treading water at this point and shouting at Mimi directions for unlocking the car. He had to stop his car and turn it off and bring the keys over to unlock the door. Yep, that's modern technology for you. Our next family meeting will be how to unlock the car door from the inside without a remote control.

"Oh My HecK" What an awful experience! I can't even imagine the panick, then to top it off, in the pouring rain!! What an ordeal!

High tecnology has really taken away the simplicity of life.

darn...a picture of you standing there in a torrent of rain 3" deep and training (cough cough)daughter to open door/window taken by your husband with your look of frustration and embarassment would have been so worth it!!!
I've got a pretty good imagination...it must have been good!
Moms always have great smart ideas...too bad they backfire on us from time to time.

Or is it the shade of blonde???

Heehee. I swear I have had the exact same thing happen multiple times with kids in cars and simply in rooms where they have managed to shut a locked door on themselves and then can't open it. Once, I was so frustrated with my son for not being able to figure it out that I was like, "WELL! I GUESS YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO STAY IN THERE FOREVER THEN! I HOPE YOUR HAPPY!!"

Of course it was raining to add drama to the event. Bet you needed a hair dryer after that one. Lots of things kids miss out on. How to wash dishes by hand. How to find info in a dictionary. How to cook--anything. How to tie shoes or tell time from an analog clock. What is this world coming to???

Oh dear. Glad everyone is okay. It's strange that we have to teach our kids those things. Now if I could teach them to close the refridgerator door.

Some days I don't miss kids. Like rainy ones.

Reminds me of telling my daughter to "BLOW the bead out of your nose!" (sniff) "NO! BLOW!" (sniff) "BLOW! LIKE THIS! (blow)" (GIANT SNIIIIIIFFFFFFF) And then a visit to the Dr. office. :)

Ahhh. . . . .sorry for that experience!! One day you'll wake up and your kids will be adults and on their own ~ And you'll know you raised them right and that you all made it thru in one amazing piece!! Enjoy them - for they grow way too fast!!

OMG. I'm dying over here! Shoot, Oliver could get himself out of his carseat and unlock the doors at age two. He was blonde for a little while, but he outgrew it. :)

Taht sounds like the blonde who called the locksmith after locking her keys in her car...
"How soon can you get here?" the blonde asked.
"About 20 minutes", was the reply from the locksmith.
"Well please hurry. It looks like rain and I left the top down!"

That is just too darn funny! I remember one of the he that shall
not be named in my family, was in training to start drivers training. I told him to put the car in reverse and he looked at me all puzzled!!! Oh right there and then I knew he should never be allowed to drive. Well he learned and he is a great driver. Some times we just assume they know it all through osmosis or something. Sorry you got soaked!!!

I'm still rolling on the floor and laughing! I cut up carrots into sticks for my son's lunch the other day . . . he didn't know what they were?!! "Mom, I didn't eat those sticks . . . I didn't know what they were." My son also locked himself in the van . . . with the keys in the ignition. He was 2 or 3 at the time and thought it was funny how Mommy was trying to get him to open the door. He especially loved when the fire department showed up! (We were out of town in St. Louis at a mall I'd never been to before.) Hope life is good for you and I love how the blog world brings people together!
