Conversations With Ten Year Olds

Mimi called me at work today and the conversation was so good I had to put her on speaker phone so the other secretaries could enjoy it:

Mimi: You know how I was grounded this week?

Me: Yes.

Mimi: Well, I've been trying really hard to be a better person. Have you noticed I've been a better person this week?

Me: Yes.

Mimi: I've been trying really hard not to yell. I've only yelled about four times this whole week! I usually yell that much in a day!

Tonight as I picked her and Hannah up from the skating rink for a school skate night:

Mimi: It started off boring. It was boy's choice and that means the girls all have to stand in a line with their arms out like this (holding her arm out horizontally, waiting to be tagged). Luckily......no one picked me. When it was girl's choice I just skated around the circle - I didn't want to pick anyone.

I laughed thinking how different this conversation will be in a year or two.

That's hilarious.

Poor thing, I can't believe you ground such a darling little girl.
Evil mother.
She can come stay with me, I'll be nicer.

She's also gonna loathe you when she reads this post and realizes you put her on speaker phone.

It's never easy to be a good parent, but it's always worth it in the end.

Oh my goodness~"better person?" Hysterical! And boy, will this conversation EVER change! Hard to say whether it's a blessing or a curse. :)

Ha! Cluttered Brain, she has NO idea that I shared this story with anyone - including my BF that I called immediately after the conversations took place.

Yes. You've got to cherish these moments while you still can. In the mean time, I will cherish my son hating girls. Then in a few years, we'll get them together.

LOL! That's right, boys need to be gross for at least eight more years, right?

Maybe she could teach me how to not yell so much! :D

CUTE! My 10 year old twin boys are feeling the same way about girls. Twin B said: It's okay that M and I play together because she's a tomboy.

(Sigh) can we keep them at this age forever?
